Dr Keith O. Fuglie is an agricultural and natural resource economist with the International Potato Center (CIP) based in Bogor, Indonesia in the capacity of leader of the Impact Enhancement Division. Keith has a BA degree in mathematics with a French minor and an MS degree in applied economics. He obtained his PhD degree in applied economics from the University of Minnesota, USA. He is a Research Fellow with the Rural Development Research Consortium at the University of California, Berkeley, USA and a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia, Indonesia. In the late nineties, he served as senior economist for agricultural and natural resources at the Council of Economic Advisers, Executive Office of the President, in Washington, DC, USA. He conducted research in agricultural and natural resource economics with the Economic Research Service, an agency of the US Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC, in the nineties. He also led a research team on the economic analysis of agricultural research policy that was responsible for assessing economic returns to agricultural research, surveying private agricultural research and examining its implications for public policy, and evaluating institutional arrangements for public–private collaboration in agricultural research. Dr Fuglie spent two years as a post-doctorate fellow with the International Potato Center in Tunis, Tunisia from 1989–91, conducting research on economics of integrated pest management. Dr Fuglie is the Lead Principal Investigator of a new SLP initiative on sweet potato–pig systems in Asia.
